Ode to Self-Compassion

POETRY

“Knowledge aids the learner and instructor” -(taken from my poem, “Poetic Prudence”)

The transitional storms in our lives can solid a downpour of self-criticism leading to doubt and nervousness. It’s tough to understand the sunshine of self-compassion when the clouds of imposter syndrome are considerable. We should bear in mind to pause, breathe, and mirror on our self-truths and the significance of shared humanity.

Shared humanity might be seen within the mentor and mentee relationship which is crucial to our private {and professional} growth. This dualistic relationship is dynamic and promotes humility and knowledge for all seasons of our journeys.

The poem, “Ode to Self-Compassion,” is devoted to my mentee and mentor, Dr Emily Lafferman, a rising third 12 months psychiatry resident at Prisma Well being Greer Middle for Psychiatry Residency Coaching Program. Dr Lafferman exudes a ardour for wellness and self-reflection that’s inspiring and admirable. The poem serves a reminder that our gentle of function and that means should shine regardless of intervals of angst and uncertainty.

“Ode to Self-Compassion”

Devoted to my mentee Dr Emily Lafferman

You shouldn’t have to be afraid!

For the rhythms of life will

attain their crescendos

and decrescendos,

beckoning your consideration

for stillness and acceptance

in your present season

of doubt and nervousness,

which at instances sway

like a pendulum

trying to find

the regular state

between main and minor

areas.

You shouldn’t have to be concerned

On your self-truths

are rooted in fertile soil

and surrounded by

mushroom enlightenment,

whose stalks present safety

and nourishment in your sage

spores to unfold and reproduce

with love and pleasure

in your progeny,

who affectionately and unapologetically

adore their mom.

You shouldn’t have to be afraid!

You shouldn’t have to be concerned!

You might be courageous and daring,

overflowing with abundance

for this season of anticipation

and gratitude for the

apply and artwork of being.
